Experimenting with different bending techniques (PVC PIPES)

Experimenting with bending PVC pipe (FREE HAND).

I put sand in the PVC pipes to keep the bends from becoming flat.
Bending the PVC pipe free hand. It bent but it wasn't a nice looking bend.

Setting up a jig to get a nicer bend

I used a can of corn and a clamp to make a jig to try and create a nicer bend.

Heating the PVC pipe with sand compressed inside.

Bending the corner around the can.

Closer view of the bend.

The bend came out looking okay. It was very flat after it cooled down.

After getting feedback from Ian about the bend, he told me that I needed to pull the PVC pipe around the bend otherwise it will compress together as it bends around the can.

Setting Up a New Jig

With this in mind, i set up a new/better jig to test one last time before starting on the actual final prototype.

Set up of the jig. This consisted of a glass jar, clamp onto the table with measurements of where the bends had to line up with.

Working out the measurements of the bends.
Compacting the PVC pipe with sand.

Heating the PVC for testing.

Bending the pipe.

Lining up the marks on the pipe with the marks on the jar and measurements on the wood.
